SAIL has opened its first international office in Dubai to boost steel exports and strengthen India-UAE trade ties. This move supports India’s goal of 300 million tonnes steel production by 2030 and expands SAIL’s presence in the global steel market.

In a major step towards strengthening its international presence, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has inaugurated its first-ever Representative Office in Dubai. This marks the public sector steel giant’s first international base in the Middle East, underlining its ambition to expand globally and play a bigger role in international trade. The new office was formally inaugurated on 3rd July 2025 by Union Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, in the presence of key dignitaries including India’s Consul General in Dubai, Shri Satish Kumar Sivan, SAIL Chairman Shri Amarendu Prakash, NMDC CMD Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel Shri V.K. Tripathi, and senior officials from SAIL, NMDC, MECON, and the Ministry of Steel.

Why Dubai? A Strategic Choice
Dubai has been chosen as the location for SAIL’s international office for several strategic reasons. Gateway to the MENA Region: Dubai serves as a hub connecting the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, offering access to fast-growing markets. In view of the Business-Friendly Environment, Dubai offers excellent infrastructure, trade policies, and an investment-friendly ecosystem that encourages global trade. Also to strengthening India-UAE Relations, the office will also support the growing trade and economic relations between India and the UAE, especially in the steel sector.

SAIL’s Global Vision
SAIL, one of India’s largest steel producers with over 20 million tonnes annual crude steel capacity, is actively pursuing global expansion. The new office is a major part of this long-term vision. The Ministry of Steel said that this step is in line with India’s national goal of reaching 300 million tonnes of steel production by 2030. SAIL aims to be a globally competitive steelmaker, and this new presence in Dubai is a significant move in that direction.
What the Dubai Office Will Do
The Representative Office will help SAIL to Promote steel exports from India to international buyers, tp build deeper partnerships with industries in the Middle East and nearby regions, also to explore new market opportunities in MENA countries and to support logistics and coordination for international trade. This is expected to improve SAIL’s visibility in the global market and help it compete with international steel manufacturers.
