A mega signature campaign will soon be launched in Bokaro to support the expansion of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), with an aim to increase production capacity and create thousands of jobs. The campaign will also demand to upgrade Bokaro General Hospital into a super-specialty hospital.
In a move to accelerate the expansion of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), a massive signature campaign will be launched across Bokaro. The initiative is aimed at gathering public support for the plant’s long-awaited expansion plan, which has faced delays. The campaign will seek to highlight the importance of this project for the region’s economic growth and future development. The announcement was made by BJP leader Amit during a press conference at the Bokaro Circuit House on 07th July 2025. Amit highlighted that the delay in the BSL expansion plan, which is expected to increase the plant’s production capacity from 5 million tonnes to 7.5 million tonnes, had caused confusion among the residents. The expansion plan, initially announced last May, has yet to begin, and people are growing increasingly restless. To resolve this, the campaign will involve community-wide participation to gather signatures in favor of the project.

Addressed the Delay and Public Sentiment
The proposed expansion of Bokaro Steel Plant is a major development that holds immense significance for the region. The Indian Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had already endorsed this expansion as part of the National Steel Policy. This will not only enhance the plant’s production capacity to 10 million tonnes, fulfilling the long-held dream of the people of Bokaro, but also open up significant employment opportunities. According to Union Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy, the project is expected to receive an investment of over Rs. 20,000 crores and will create 2,500 direct jobs and more than 10,000 indirect jobs for local residents. Amit stressed that the expansion is intertwined with the future of Bokaro. However, despite the Government’s approval, BSL management has not yet commenced the project, creating uncertainty among locals who are eagerly waiting for progress.
The signature campaign will aim to collect two lakh signatures within a month, with the goal of presenting them to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The campaign will also focus on the upgradation of Bokaro General Hospital into a super-specialty hospital, an additional demand from the people of Bokaro. In order to gain wider support, postcards will be sent to the Prime Minister by 10,000 residents, requesting immediate action on both issues. Additionally, social media platforms will be used to garner further support and spread awareness about the cause.
Widespread Support from Local Organizations
Before the press conference, Amit, along with other local leaders, organized a strategic meeting at the Bokaro Circuit House with representatives from various sectors, including labor unions, business associations, and displaced organizations. The meeting was aimed at organizing the logistics and structure for the signature campaign and ensuring maximum participation from the community. Sanjay Baidya, Manoj Chaudhary, Vinod Kumar from the Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, Arvind Singh, and others were present during the press conference.
