Mining Revenue Soars to Rs. 2645 Cr by May After Royalty-Cess Hike
Jharkhand’s Mining Department collected Rs. 2,645.58 crore in revenue by May 2025, up Rs. 1023 crore from last year due to increased royalty and cess rates. Coal royalties are now based on market rates, and cess on key minerals like iron ore and bauxite has been raised. Major contributions came from coal, iron ore, and mineral cess collections, significantly boosting state earnings.
Eastern Zonal Council Meet Tomorrow in Ranchi
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the Eastern Zonal Council meeting in Ranchi on 10th July, with leaders from Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal attending. CM Hemant Soren will present Jharkhand’s demand for Rs. 1.36 lakh crore dues. Discussions will cover 20 issues, including power reforms, banking access, mineral auctions, school dropouts, and inter-state asset sharing. Shah arrives tonight.
Jharkhand to Demand Rs. 1.36 Lakh Crore in Eastern Zonal Meet
At the 27th Eastern Zonal Council meeting in Ranchi on 10th July, chaired by Amit Shah, 68 delegates from Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal will attend. Jharkhand will demand Rs. 1.36 lakh crore from coal companies and raise issues like water disputes, border security, Naxalism, and pending central dues. Discussions will span power supply, education, health, and inter-state cooperation.
Jharkhand Cabinet Meeting is Schduled on 11th July
Jharkhand’s state cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, is scheduled for 11th July at Project Bhawan, Ranchi. All departments have been notified. Despite currently being in Delhi for his father Shibu Soren’s treatment, the CM is expected to return before the meeting. Key decisions on state matters may be discussed during the session.
Nationwide Workers’ Strike Today
Around 250 million workers across India are on strike today, protesting Government labor and farmer policies. Banking, insurance, coal, postal, and public sector operations will be affected. Led by 10 central trade unions, demands include scrapping new labor codes, Rs. 26,000 minimum wage, and halting privatization. Hospitals and private firms will function normally, while public transport and industry face major disruption.
BCCL Becomes First in CIL to Operate via MDO Model
Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) has restarted coal production at its long-idle PB Project in Dhanbad under the Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) model, becoming the first Coal India subsidiary to do so. Partnered with Eagle Infra India, the project aims to produce 52 million tonnes of coking coal, boosting self-reliance, reducing imports, and driving regional economic growth and employment.
Up to Rs. 25,000 Hike for Tata Power Workers
Tata Power’s Jojobera plant employees will see a salary hike of Rs. 19,596 to Rs. 25,613 following a wage revision agreement with the union. Effective from 1st January 2025, to 31st December 2028, the deal includes a 16.46% basic salary increase, enhanced allowances, retirement benefits, and improved medical coverage. Average monthly raise: Rs. 21,200. The revision shortens the upgradation period by one year.

NTPC Mining Limited’s Pakri Barwadih coal project dispatched its 1000th coal rake via the Rapid Loading System, marked a major operational milestone since the first dispatch in September 2023. Tata Steel Q1 FY26: Stable Output, Slight Dip in Deliveries
Tata Steel produced 5.26 million tons of crude steel and delivered 4.75 million tons in Q1 FY26, slightly down from last year. Shutdowns at Jamshedpur and NINL plants impacted deliveries. The company saw strong growth in automotive, engineering, and branded segments. Meanwhile, 75 surplus coke plant workers were reabsorbed, and wage revision at TSDPL remains pending for 22 months.
Villagers Opposed BCCL’s Mining Land Acquisition in Forest Area
BCCL held a gram sabha in Barmasia mouza of Tundu Panchayat to seek public consent for coal mining on forest land. Villagers unanimously opposed the move, citing forced excavation, false cases, and pending compensation. Despite BCCL’s appeal in national interest, locals refused, emphasizing the land as their livelihood. Previous claims under forest rights remain unresolved, fueling discontent.
