Coal dispatch operations at Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) have taken a major hit, with the company managing to send out only 11 rakes of coal against a daily target of 33, resulting in a daily financial loss exceeding Rs. 25 crore.
According to internal figures dated 18th June 2025, multiple operational areas of BCCL, including Lodna, Bastacolla, Kusunda, Govindpur, Block-II, and Barora, are witnessing severe disruptions in coal transportation. In particular, coal dispatch from Lodna and Bastacolla has remained zero for the last two to three days.

Production Suffers as Well
The ongoing monsoon rains have also sharply impacted coal production. The company’s current daily output has plunged to 36,400 tonnes, which is far below its daily production target of 1.4 lakh tonnes. Major production zones such as Lodna, Barora, Kusunda, Katras, and Bastacolla are performing significantly below expectations.

The double blow of heavy rainfall and operational bottlenecks has not only affected coal movement but also jeopardized daily production goals. If conditions persist, the losses may mount further, potentially impacting coal supply to key consumers and industries. BCCL is yet to announce any official contingency plan to address the ongoing crisis.
