The Joint Consultative Committee Meeting (JCCM) of Tata Steel was held on Tuesday to deliberate on various worker-related matters between company management and union representatives. The meeting highlighted positive developments for employee welfare, including a potential revival of the ETA vehicle loan and quarterly evaluations of Joint Departmental Committees (JDCs).
In this session, held on a rotational basis, Tata Workers’ Union President Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary chaired the meeting, while Tata Steel’s Vice President (Operations), Chaitanya Bhanu, served as Vice Chairperson. Presentations were made on departmental activities by Lime Plant Chairperson Subrat Kumar Swain and LD-3 JDC Chairperson Shivranjan Kumar. The management also presented an overview of the company’s current performance.

Key demands and updates discussed in the meeting included:

ETA Loan Revival: The management expressed a positive stance on restarting the employee vehicle loan (ETA) scheme.

JDC Evaluation: JDCs will now be assessed quarterly instead of annually. A three-member committee from both the management and the union will evaluate performances based on newly defined standards.

Apprentice Promotion Rule Change: A request was made to remove the mandatory diploma qualification for Trade Apprentices seeking promotion to Group-3, as Group-4 has now become the final level.

Shutdown Snacks: Agreement was reached on providing snacks to employees working during maintenance shutdowns.

TMH Discharge Process: Simplification of the post-discharge process for patients at Tata Main Hospital (TMH) was proposed.

Parking Issue: The issue of inadequate parking at the Works Services Office was raised.

Canteen Overcrowding: The need for additional canteen services in the Flat Products Division was discussed due to overcrowding.

Recognition Initiatives: The union requested the reintroduction of the “Special Shabashi Coupon” to acknowledge employee contributions.

Training for Crane Operators: A demand was made for video-based simulated training and support via the e-CBS module to aid crane operator promotions.
Senior officials including Vineet Shah, Surjeet Sinha, and several union representatives such as General Secretary Satish Kumar Singh and Deputy President Shailesh Kumar Singh actively participated in the session. The JCCM once again showcased Tata Steel’s commitment to open dialogue and progressive workforce management by constructively addressing multiple employee-centric concerns.
