Birsa Munda International Airport in Ranchi jumped from 34th to 5th place in AAI’s passenger satisfaction survey, scoring 4.96 out of 5. Improved services, cleanliness, and taxi access drove the rise. Challenges remain in parking space and broader flight connectivity.
Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi, has made a remarkable leap in the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) recent half-yearly customer satisfaction ranking. From a lowly 34th spot in the previous year, Ranchi airport now proudly stands at fifth among 62 airports surveyed across India. According to the AAI survey conducted between January and June 2025, Ranchi earned an impressive 4.96 out of 5 on a variety of passenger comfort parameters ranging from parking and baggage trolleys to the behaviour of check-in staff, cleanliness, seating, quality of toilets, and overall waiting time. This is a major improvement from the 4.69 rating it received during July–December 2024, and even more significant compared to the 4.25 score from the first half of last year.

Efforts Behind the Rise
Ranchi Airport Director, R. R. Mourya, attributes this success entirely to passenger feedback and the airport’s diligent response. One key grievance, lack of reliable taxi services was resolved by partnering with a cab aggregator on 14th July. Additional steps taken including Launch of ambulance service on-site for emergencies, Enhanced cleanliness and hygiene efforts, Improved availability of baggage trolleys and courteous check-in procedures, Ongoing efforts to address other concerns raised by passengers.
“We’re grateful to our passengers for their candid feedback. It guided our improvements and helped us achieve this ranking. Our mission now is to maintain this position and aim even higher,” Director Mourya said.
With its recent success, Ranchi airport now aims to hold onto its top-five position. Efforts are ongoing to ease parking pressure and expand route connectivity. If these steps come through, passengers may soon enjoy smoother travel from Ranchi to destinations across India.
