HEC has received a major boost as Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) lifted its ban, paving the way for Rs. 100 crore in work orders. Following Government backed revival efforts, HEC is regaining industry trust, securing fresh contracts and resuming operations across all its production units.
Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has lifted the suspension on Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC), opened doors to fresh orders worth approximately Rs. 100 crore. This shift followed multiple reassurances during three Parliamentary Committee Meetings over the past two months, where officials focused on HEC’s revival and urged public sector units to boost its business. Once blacklisted in 2023 due to delays in delivering a crusher unit, HEC had been barred from bidding on NCL tenders. However, following a high-level meeting between HEC directors and NCL officials, the suspension was revoked. This reinstatement now enables HEC to compete again for critical equipment contracts involving drag-lines, crushers, and three cubic meter shovels.
Momentum Building Across Sectors
BHEL Hyderabad recently awarded HEC orders worth Rs. 20 Crore for spare parts. July dispatches are set to begin, distributing over Rs. 10 Crore worth of products to steel and BSP industries. Operational strength remains robust across HEC’s plants FFP, HMBP, and HMTP despite minor supply-worker protests, with most plants functioning smoothly.

All Three HEC Units Operational, Rs. 600 Cr Projects Underway
Leeladhar Singh, President of the Hatia Project Workers Union, highlighted that HEC’s situation has dramatically improved since last year. While 2023 saw project cancellations, current order book totals over Rs. 600 crore, encompassing coal mining and defense sector contracts. HEC is crucial in supporting Coal India’s mining operations. Its reinstatement not only strengthens PSU collaboration but also underscores governmental intent to preserve and rehabilitate strategic industrial assets. The renewed trust from major players like NCL and BHEL shows confidence in HEC’s quality manufacturing and delivery capabilities.
