BMW Industries Limited has confirmed plans to establish a new steel manufacturing facility in Jharkhand with an investment of Rs. 803 crores. The project will set up a 5 lakh tonne capacity cold rolling unit at Bokaro, Jharkhand under the Government of India’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for specialty steel.
Plant Will Manufacture Advance Alloy Products
The proposed unit will manufacture colour coated materials and advanced alloy and non-alloy coated products. According to BMW Industries Managing Director (MD) Harsh Bansal, these products will serve a wide range of industries including infrastructure, automobiles, renewable energy, and defence. The company expects to commence colour coated steel production in the third quarter of the current financial year and begin generating revenue from the fourth quarter.

JSPCB has Already Approved the Project
Construction is planned over the next two years, with the first phase expected to be operational in FY26. The Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board has already given clearance for the project. BMW Industries currently manufactures TMT bars, pipes, tubes, cold-rolled and galvanized products. The Bokaro plant will be a strategic step in strengthening its product basket with higher value steel, aligned with the Centre’s push for technology driven steel capacity expansion.
