In Hazaribagh Jharkhand Naxalites associated with the Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) attacked the Tapin North project of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) on 23rd August late night and set fire to six vehicles belongs to outsourcing company RKS. Dozens of armed Naxalites suddenly arrived at the project site and took control of excavators, dumpers, and other vehicles parked there. They emptied the diesel and petrol from all the vehicles and then set them on fire one by one.
Naxals Warned Workers to Stop Mining
According to the eyewitnesses, a group of heavily armed Naxals reached at the site, forced operators out of their vehicles, and drained fuel before setting excavators, dumpers and other machines on fire. The attackers also thrashed workers and issued threats that operations must be halted immediately or the company would face harsher consequences. Before leaving, the group pasted the warning posters of their organization. RKS has been engaged in coal mining at the project for the past four years.

Police Deployed Security Forces at Site
Police officials suspect the assault was part of a levy collection drive by the TPC, which has often targeted coal contractors and outsourcing agencies in Jharkhand. Superintendent of Police confirmed that a police team from Charhi reached the spot soon after the incident, recovered posters, and started an investigation. Security forces have been deployed in and around the site to prevent further violence.
Frequent Attacks Challenging Administration
This is not the first time, when any coal projects in Hazaribagh have come under Naxal fire. Recently on 23rd June 2025, armed criminals groups had also set fire to multiple vehicles at a road construction site in Barkagaon. The latest attacks in the mining area are the big challenges for mining companies and the state administration in ensuring security in the coal belt area. Police have assured that an intensive operation will be started to track down the culprits, while CCL management has promised an safe environment at site for employees and contractors.
