Renowned industrialist of Giridih and chairman of Mongia Steel Dr. Gunwant Singh Mongia has alleged that he was threatened with death and forced to pay extortion during a land dispute on 19th August 2025. In his complaint filed at Giridih Nagar police station, Dr. Mongia said that a group led by Mumtaz Alam alias Mister demanded Rs. 20 lakh from him at knifepoint and forcibly took Rs. 10,000 from his pocket.
Industrialist Claimed Assault and Threat
According to the FIR, Dr. Mongia had purchased 9.90 decimals of land with a house in Bhandaridih mouza under Giridih sadar circle. He alleged that Mumtaz Alam broke into the house, attempted to seize possession and began removing his house hold items. When Dr. Mongia reached the spot and showed documents, an altercation followed. The complaint stated that the accused, accompanied by five to six men, abused and assaulted him, placing a knife on his neck and demanding extortion money.

Police Registered Case, Probe Initiated
Giridih Nagar police station in-charge Gyan Ranjan Kumar confirmed that an FIR has been registered based on the industrialist’s complaint. The case names Mumtaz Alam and several associates as accused. Police said investigation has started and legal action will be taken after verification of facts. Dr. Mongia, in his statement, urged authorities to ensure strict action, stressing that the threats posed a risk to his life.
