The Jharkhand assembly passed a Rs. 4,296.62 crore supplementary budget on Monday amid ruckus, with both ruling and opposition MLAs staging protests. Disputes arose over Bihar’s voter list revision, a bill on disqualification of jailed leaders, and BJP’s agitation over Surya Handsa’s encounter. The Speaker adjourned the house thrice, while leaders demanded accountability and accused the government of undermining democracy.
Jharkhand to Form Displacement and Rehabilitation Commission Soon
The Jharkhand government informed the Assembly that the Displacement and Rehabilitation Commission will be constituted soon, with draft rules for its functioning under approval. Replying to MLA Roshan Lal Chaudhary’s proposal, the Government admitted delays despite a July 2024 cabinet decision. Chaudhary said inconsistent policies on land acquisition, displacement, and compensation have left tribal and local families suffering across generations.
New Coal Mine to Open in Bhurkunda with Rs. 314 Crore Investment
Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) will soon open a new outsourced coal mine in Bhurkunda under HMM hiring at a cost of Rs. 314 crore. Tendering began on 18th August, with results due 2nd September. The mine, 120 meters deep, could start by November. While it promises jobs and local economic growth, concerns remain over environmental damage and tree loss.
Hazaribagh MP Organized Meeting on Rohane Mines, NMDC Assured Rehab Plan
Hazaribagh MP Manish Jaiswal chaired a meeting on 25 August 2025 regarding the proposed Rohane Mines project in Badkagaon. NMDC officials, landowners, and villagers from Indra and Basariya attended. NMDC Signed MoA with Mecon for Consultancy Under Vision 2030
State-run miner NMDC has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Mecon Limited to provide consultancy services, marking one of Mecon’s largest order bookings. The partnership supports NMDC’s “Vision 2030,” which aims to double iron ore production within the next five years. The collaboration is expected to strengthen NMDC’s expansion and efficiency in achieving its growth targets.
NMDC Opened Coal Division Office in Hazaribagh
NMDC Limited inaugurated its new Coal Division office at Vicky Complex, Patratu Chowk on Ranchi-Patna Road in Hazaribagh on Monday. The office was jointly opened by GM P.K. Kundu and DGM Sudhir Singh in the presence of officials including Vijay Kumar. The launch was followed by a colourful cultural program held at Floresta.
High Court Sought Reply from CO in Husainabad Stone Mining Case
The Jharkhand High Court, hearing a PIL on alleged illegal stone mining in Husainabad, Palamu, directed the Circle Officer to file a specific affidavit on land records. The next hearing is set for 8th September. The petitioner alleged leases were granted on forged documents. In a separate case, Rahul Gandhi was asked to refile his amendment plea with a Rs. 2,000 fine.
Ramgarh Court Reserves Order on ATS Plea for Extradited Gangster Meena’s Remand
A Ramgarh court on Monday reserved its order on the ATS plea seeking custody of gangster Sunil Kumar Meena alias Mayank Singh, extradited from Azerbaijan. Meena faces over 40 cases, including murder attempts and extortion targeting traders, coal transporters, and contractors across Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. ATS also seeks to probe his links with Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang.
Tapin North Project Incident, Gurudev Named in FIR
Armed TPC militants torched three Poklen machines and three dumpers at CCL’s Tapin North project in Hazaribagh late Saturday night. An FIR has been lodged at Charhi police station naming dreaded extremist Gurudev alias Guruji and 10 others. Police suspect the arson was meant to instill fear for levy collection. Security has been tightened and investigations are underway.
Workers Protested Wage Discrimination at Azim Premji Foundation Site
At the Azim Premji Foundation’s medical university construction site in Itki, workers staged a protest on Monday against contractors for removing local laborers and hiring outsiders at higher wages. Locals alleged they were paid only Rs. 550 for 12-hour shifts, while outsiders received Rs. 750. They accused contractors of exploitation and warned of phased agitations if labor laws and fair wages are ignored.
Worker Died After Fall at Venkatesh Iron & Alloy Factory
A 45-year-old worker, Vijay Bedia, died after falling from height at Venkatesh Iron & Alloy Factory in Mahuatola, Bhurkunda. Angry villagers halted factory operations, demanding justice. Alleging safety lapses, wage violations, and long working hours, they staged a protest with the body. Later, management agreed to pay Rs. 11 lakh compensation and provide a dependent with a job, ending the standoff.
MLA Shweta Singh Lead Protest Over Six-Decade Injustice to Bokaro Displaced Villages
Bokaro MLA Shweta Singh led a massive protest demanding Panchayati Raj inclusion for villages displaced during the 1964 Bokaro Steel Plant project. She said nearly 50,000 affected people remain deprived of schemes, facilities, and democratic rights despite losing land. A memorandum was submitted to the DC, warning of intensified agitation if no immediate action is taken against the prolonged neglect.
