Union Minister of State for Coal Satish Chandra Dubey on 26th August 2025 announced that the Centre is preparing to allocate Lithium blocks in Jharkhand to meet the growing demand for the critical mineral. Addressing officials and employees of the Geological Survey of India (GSI) at Kujju in Ramgarh, Dubey said Lithium will play a crucial role in sectors ranging from batteries to arms manufacturing, as India works towards its target of becoming a developed and self-reliant nation by 2047.
Employment and Local Development Expected
The minister said that, as with Coal block allocations, the move to open Lithium reserves will generate direct and indirect employment opportunities in Jharkhand. He added that residents of mine-affected areas would benefit through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) measures and projects funded by the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT), which finances development works within a 25 km radius of mining zones.
