Adani Power Bags Rs. 25,000 Crore Thermal Project in Bihar’s Bhagalpur
Adani Power Limited has received a Letter of Award from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. to set up a 2400 MW ultra-supercritical thermal plant at Pirpainti, Bhagalpur. The Rs. 25,000 crore project, won through competitive bidding at Rs. 6.075 per unit, involves a 25-year supply deal with NBPDCL and SBPDCL. It promises 10,000–12,000 jobs during construction and 3,000 operational roles.

Jharkhand to Seek Rs. 2000 Crore Compensation from Centre Post GST Rate Revision
Jharkhand finance minister Radha Krishana Kishore said the state will demand Rs. 2000 crore annually from the Centre to offset losses from the proposed GST rate rationalisation. Laxma Reddy accused the Government of weakening Coal India by imposing ever-higher production targets—1 billion tonnes last year and more by 2026-27—despite staff falling from 5 lakh to 2 lakh. Jharkhand HC Fined Top Water Resources Officials for Contempt in Salary Payment Case
The Jharkhand High Court, expressing strong displeasure, fined Water Resources Department Principal Secretary Prashant Kumar and three senior engineers Rs. 25,000 each for contempt after failing to pay wages for Class III work to employee Lakhan Prasad Yadav despite Supreme Court orders. The court warned that non-payment within a week would require their personal appearance. Judges also objected to officials appearing in casual dress.

CAG Report Flagged Shrinking Forests and Wildlife Decline in Kolhan
The Comptroller and Auditor General’s report reveals alarming forest and wildlife decline in Kolhan’s East and West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts. Between 2017–21, forest cover shrank 2.6% while wildlife dropped 38% in 2018-19, later partially recovering. Elephant habitats are under pressure, and Palamu Tiger Reserve now has only one tiger left. Mining, deforestation, and poor conservation planning remain key threats.
Jharkhand HC Dismisses Madhu Koda’s Plea in Rural Electrification Scam
The Jharkhand High Court on 29th August 2025, rejected former CM Madhu Koda’s plea in the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification graft case, upholding the trial court’s order. The CBI alleged Koda took a Rs. 11.40 crore bribe from IVRCL director D.K. Srivastava in Mumbai, awarding rural electrification contracts in six districts. The court ruled evidence issues cannot be considered at discharge stage.
Ex-Jharkhand Minister Enos Ekka, Nine Others Convicted in Tribal Land Scam
A CBI court in Ranchi convicted former Jharkhand minister Enos Ekka, his wife Menon Ekka, and eight others in a land scam involving violations of the Chotanagpur Tenancy (CNT) Act. The accused forged documents to illegally acquire tribal land in Ranchi between 2006–08. The case, filed in 2010, revealed purchases worth Rs. 1.18 crore. Sentencing is scheduled for 30th August.

Bokaro DC Orders 24-Hour Response to Public Grievances

Purnadih Displaced Front Warned of Mine Closure if Demands Not Met

Gua Workers’ Unions Opposes Biometric Attendance, Threaten Agitation
Unions in Gua mining area of West Singhbhum have opposed management’s plan to introduce biometric attendance, warning of a united agitation if enforced. At a joint meeting, leaders from multiple unions including Jharkhand Mazdoor Sangharsh Sangh, INTUC, and BMS said the move violates workers’ rights, especially when basic amenities remain unfulfilled. They alleged management is creating unrest with misleading circulars.
