Senior IAS officer Vikas Sheel has been named the next Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh. The 1994-batch officer, who has been serving as Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, has been relieved ahead of his scheduled tenure. He will return to Raipur next week to take charge from incumbent Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, whose term ends this month.

He is considered among the State’s most experienced administrators. He has previously served as Collector of Raipur and Bilaspur, and handled major portfolios including Industries, Finance, Health, and General Administration. At the Centre, he played a significant role in the Ministry of Health and the Jal Jeevan Mission, contributing to national-level programmes. His empanelment to the Secretary grade in March 2025 was seen as a key milestone in his career.
Return of an IAS Couple
Vikas Sheel’s wife, Nidhi Chhibber, also a 1994-batch IAS officer, is returning from central deputation simultaneously. This development is being seen as a strengthening of the state’s senior administrative team, as Chhibber too has handled significant assignments at the Centre and is expected to take on key responsibilities upon her return.
