Gumla district’s Aurapat village in Dumri block is set to undergo a transformation after being selected as a pilot project under a NITI Aayog-supported initiative. A grant of Rs. 1.35 crores has been sanctioned to turn the tribal-dominated village into a self-reliant development model, benefiting around 500 families directly and creating new livelihood opportunities.

Focus on Irrigation, Ponds, and Horticulture
Under the plan, Aurapat village will be divided into four clusters, each equipped with ponds, irrigation systems, and horticulture facilities. These interventions are aimed at improving agricultural productivity while opening up opportunities for fish farming and allied activities. Officials said the project will also address the need for sustainable water management, ensuring year-round farming and enhanced food security for villagers.

Training to Build Skills and Self-Reliance
Specialist teams will be deployed in the village to train residents in modern techniques and efficient use of traditional resources. The training component is expected to prepare villagers for horticulture, fish farming, and pond maintenance, enabling them to generate a stable income.
Model for Expansion to Other Villages
District Planning Officer Raman Kumar said that once the Aurapat project delivers results, it will be replicated across other primitive tribal villages in Gumla. “This is not just about one village. The goal is to strengthen the entire rural economy of the district and ensure inclusive growth,” he said. The project is seen as a milestone in combining Government support with community participation to create a sustainable and replicable rural development model.
