Jamtara police arrested a key accused involved in supplying SIM cards to fraudsters. The accused, identified as Akbar Hussain, a resident of Nawadih in Jamtara district, was nabbed from Murgabani village under Karmatand police station during a late-night raid. Police seized 377 SIM cards from Assam, two mobile phones, three ATM cards, a flight ticket and an Aadhaar card from his possession.

IM Cards Bought Using Forged IDs
According to SP Rajkumar Mehta, Hussain regularly traveled to Assam by flight from Kolkata and Ranchi, bought SIM cards in bulk using forged IDs, and returned to Jamtara by train. These SIM cards were sold to cyber fraudsters for Rs. 2,500 each, facilitating scams in Giridih, Deoghar, Jamtara and Bihar’s border districts. Police believe this is the first case in Jharkhand where such a large consignment from another state has been recovered from one person.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Hussain was part of a well-organized syndicate, with multiple players involved in procuring and distributing SIM cards to cyber criminals. SP Mehta said efforts are underway to identify other members of the network and trace money transfers to masterminds based in Assam. ‘This arrest will help us disrupt a major supply chain for cyber fraud,’ he said.
Hussain Sent to Jail
Police records revealed that Hussain had a previous case registered against him at Jamtara Cyber Police Station in April 2021 for involvement in online fraud. After the fresh arrest, he has been sent to judicial custody. Authorities are now preparing to share intelligence with Assam police to dismantle the source network.
