Anger flared among workers of SAIL’s Meghahatuburu mines on Friday as members of the Jharkhand Mazdoor Sangharsh Sangh staged a protest against what they called arbitrary decisions and negligence by mine management. The protesters warned that if their long-pending demands were ignored, they would intensify the agitation and even resort to shutting down the mine.

Demands Raised Before Management
Union leaders said the workers would no longer tolerate delays. Their charter of demands includes PRP-based bonus for all workers, appointment of a permanent doctor at the Meghahatuburu clinic, stopping the removal of Dr. Manoj, extending bonus benefits to contract workers, and fixing power supply issues in the residential colony where frequent cuts are disrupting daily life.

Allegations of Exploitation
Union representatives alleged that the mine officers were “playing with the sweat and blood of workers” by cutting facilities for permanent employees and exploiting contract labour. They termed the situation unjust and warned that if management failed to act, the agitation would expand to gherao of the civil department and a complete halt of mining operations.

Call for United Struggle
Prominent union leaders, including Aftab Alam, Intkhab Alam, Dayanand Kumar, Amit Raut, Somnath Sahu, Alam Ansari, Kuldeep Singh, Amarnath Yadav, Kamta Prasad, Rajesh Banerjee, Ajit Gop, Ram Hessa, and Shailesh Bari, were present at the protest. Addressing the gathering, they vowed to keep the struggle alive until management resolved the issues, asserting that the voice of workers cannot be suppressed.
