The PHDCCI organized the 4th Jharkhand Mining Summit in Hotel Radisson Blu, Ranchi with the theme “Advances in Sustainable Mining.” Policymakers, industry leaders, and experts joined the event to discuss how to grow mining in Jharkhand while taking care of the environment.

Industry and Govt. Voices on Responsible Mining
PHDCCI Jharkhand Chairman and noted neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Kumar welcomed the participants and described Jharkhand as the “Engine of India,” emphasising that mining must be carried out with responsibility. He said that modernization is necessary to make mining sustainable and thanked Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore for his presence as chief guest.

The Finance Minister, in his address, admitted that despite holding 40% of the country’s mineral wealth, Jharkhand’s mining revenue trails Odisha’s. He called for a State-level policy ensuring that mineral extraction does not harm the environment and insisted on better monitoring of CSR funds so that they are used effectively and transparently for community benefit.
Adani’s VP Stressed on Technology Adoption
Sanjeev Shekhar, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Adani Power, Jharkhand, described mining as the backbone of Jharkhand’s economy and called for redefining it to meet global expectations of cleaner and inclusive growth. He stressed the use of AI, IoT, drones, and data analytics to improve productivity, reduce emissions, and enhance safety. He added that Adani is implementing global best practices in coal mining projects through transparent land acquisition, community engagement, and skill development.
Dr. S.P. Agrawal (Co-Chairman, PHDCCI Jharkhand & Vice-Chancellor, Sainath University), Ravi Ranjan, IFS (APCCF, Govt. of Jharkhand), P.K. Dixit (MECON), and Dr. Naseer Jamal (Director, PHDCCI), shared insights on policy, technology, and industry challenges.

Technical Session on Automation
The second session of the summit focused on “Automation and Impact of New and Emerging Technology in Mining.” Industry experts spoke on how digital tools and automation can reduce human risk, optimise resource use, and make operations more sustainable. Participants agreed that Jharkhand must adopt advanced technology to remain competitive while protecting its ecology and supporting local communities.
