The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is set to transform rural telecom connectivity in Jharkhand with projects worth Rs. 1573 crores as part of its national 4G rollout. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally launch the nationwide 4G rollout from Odisha featuring 97,500 indigenously built towers under the Digital Bharat Nidhi scheme.

2750 Villages to Get 4G Access
BSNL Jharkhand Chief General Manager Telecom (CGMT) Vipul Agarwal said that the 4G Saturation Project aims to connect 2750 uncovered villages in the State. “Out of the 755 towers planned, 652 have already been made operational, ensuring that rural Jharkhand is no longer left behind in the digital journey,” Agarwal said at a press conference. The project has been supported by the State Government, which is facilitating land acquisition for tower installations.

LWE Areas Get Network Boost
To improve connectivity in sensitive zones, BSNL is also upgrading 816 towers in Left Wing Extremism-affected areas under the LWE Phase-I Project. So far, 248 towers have been upgraded to 4G. Officials said that this will not only improve communication but also support security operations and economic activity in these regions.

Building the Runway to 5G
Agarwal called the rollout a “new chapter” in BSNL’s journey as it celebrates its silver jubilee. “Our networks are being built with secure, indigenous technology. Once 4G services are launched, we will swiftly upgrade to 5G standalone (SA) networks for citizens and enterprises alike,” he added. BSNL has also seen strong customer response, with more than 50,000 new users added in Jharkhand under the Rupee One Freedom Plan between 1st August and 15th September.
This large-scale project, costing nearly Rs. 37,000 crores nationwide, is part of the Government’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat in Telecom, aiming to create a secure, affordable and future-ready digital ecosystem across India.
