The prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, is all set to celebrate its centenary year on 9th December 2025, with industrialist Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, attending as the chief guest. The institute, established on 9th December 1926, during the British era by then Viceroy Lord Irwin, is preparing for a grand celebration marking 100 years of academic excellence and national contribution.

Institute Preparing for Historic 100-Year Celebration
As part of the centenary events, IIT (ISM) is constructing a Green Centenary Building, which will house a 2500 seat auditorium, several smart classrooms accommodating over 1200 students, and two modern conference halls with a capacity of 200 each. The institute campus is being upgraded and beautified to match the scale of the milestone celebration. In addition to the events, a Rs. 100 commemorative coin will be officially released, symbolising a century of the institute’s legacy.

Alumni Target Rs. 100-Crore Fund for Campus Development
The IIT (ISM) alumni network has pledged to contribute to the institute’s growth by raising Rs. 100 crores under a centenary fundraising initiative. The funds will support infrastructure development, research, and scholarships. The campaign, driven by the IIT (ISM) Alumni Association of North America (ISMAANA), also offers naming rights for various sections of the Centenary Building to generous donors. The initiative aims to strengthen alumni engagement and contribute to the institute’s vision for the next 100 years.

The centenary marks a defining chapter for IIT (ISM), an institute that has evolved from a mining school into a premier technology university. Student Designed the Centenary Logo
Adding a youthful touch to the celebrations, Mohit Gupta, a final-year student of Petroleum Engineering, designed the official centenary logo. His design, approved by the institute’s senior officials, captures the spirit of innovation and progress that defines IIT (ISM)’s journey. The centenary celebration, combining legacy, technology, and sustainability, is expected to be one of the most memorable academic events of the year in Jharkhand.
