In a vibrant celebration of tradition and craftsmanship, Hindalco Industries organised the ‘Tana-Bana’ ceremony to honour Kosa silk weavers of Chhattisgarh. Twenty-four women artisans from Champa and nearby villages were felicitated for their remarkable contribution to reviving the centuries old art of Kosa silk weaving. The ceremony was attended by Hindalco’s Managing Director Satish Pai, along with senior leaders Saurabh Khedekar, Kailash Pandey, and Neeta Shah.

Hindalco’s Kosala Initiative Revived Ancient Craft
Kosala Livelihood and Social Foundation, a non-profit subsidiary of Hindalco Industries, has been instrumental in empowering Kosa weavers across Chhattisgarh. Through training, market linkage, and sustainable practices, Kosala has provided economic stability to hundreds of artisans. “Kosala is not just an institution, it is like our mother,” said Khudi Ram Dewangan, a weaver from Champa. “It has changed our lives and given us dignity and income security.”

Leadership Reaffirmed Commitment to Global Recognition
Addressing the gathering, Hindalco MD Satish Pai said, “We want the Kosa tradition to stand strong as a sustainable business on its own. When I first visited Raigarh and saw the process of Kosa production, I felt that this ancient art must not only be revived but also showcased across India and abroad.” Supporting the vision, Saurabh Khedekar, Director of Kosala, added that Hindalco’s initiative focuses on preserving traditional methods while ensuring fair trade and ecological balance.

Celebration of Art and Culture
The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and featured a captivating Kathak performance by Raigarh Gharana’s Niharika Yadav, depicting the cultural depth of Kosa weaving. Speaking on the occasion, Kosala CEO Neeta Shah said, “Tana-Bana is our tribute to the relentless spirit of artisans. Their craft is the thread that connects our past with our future.” The event concluded with a collective pledge to strengthen Chhattisgarh’s handloom heritage and provide Kosa silk artisans a global platform.
