Tension prevailed in Gova village under Sadar police station area on Tuesday morning after local residents stopped a team from the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) from conducting coal exploration work. The villagers claimed the survey was being done without any prior notice or consent from the Gram Sabha. The protest led to the suspension of boring activity in the area.

According to villagers Babulal Oraon, Umesh Singh, Chipur Sahu, Rajesh Thakur, Surendra Singh, Rampal Singh, and Pankaj Prasad, no official communication or village meeting had been organised before the CMPDI team arrived with drilling machinery. They accused the officials of starting exploration work forcefully on private farmlands, calling the process completely opaque and unilateral. The residents demanded that no work be undertaken until Gram Sabha approval is formally secured.

Villagers Feared Displacement and Environmental Impact
The protest saw a large gathering of both men and women, united in their opposition to the survey. Locals expressed concern that any potential colliery project in the area could lead to displacement and loss of agricultural land. They insisted that authorities must engage with landowners and ensure transparent consultation before proceeding with any mining-related activity.
