Thunderstorm and Lightning Alert Issued for 17 Jharkhand Districts on 24th Oct
The Department has issued a yellow alert for 17 districts of Jharkhand, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and winds up to 40 kmph on 24th October. Except for the northeastern districts like Deoghar, Dumka, Pakur, and Godda, the alert covers most regions. Ranchi and nearby areas saw clear skies and mild chill on Tuesday, with temperatures around 30°C.
Major Fire Erupts in Sonari Scrap Yard, Property Worth Rs. 5 Lakh Destroyed
A massive fire broke out late Monday night in a scrap yard at Gola Basti under Sonari police station, triggering panic in the area. Six fire tenders battled for hours to control the blaze, suspected to have started from firecracker sparks. Property worth over Rs. 5 lakh was destroyed. MLA Saryu Roy visited the site and assured assistance to the owner.
Contract Worker Killed in Road Accident on Diwali Eve in East Singhbhum
Ajit Pramanik, a 38-year-old contract worker at Tata Steel, died in a road accident on Diwali evening near Bhuiyansinhan–Barasusni road in East Singhbhum. His bike skidded on loose gravel of an under-construction road, causing fatal head injuries. He was declared dead at MGM Hospital. The tragedy cast a pall of grief over his family and village.

In Ghatshila, the Kurmi community has announced a boycott of the upcoming by-election, declaring “No ST, No Vote” until their demand for Scheduled Tribe status is met. The community plans a signature campaign across 93 villages to press for ST inclusion, recognition of the Kurmali language, and Sarna Dharma Code. Leaders warned of intensified agitation if talks aren’t held within 15 days.
