Members of the Janata Mazdoor Sangh staged a strong protest at BCCL’s Kusunda Area Office, opposing the Central Government’s move to introduce four new labour codes by merging 44 existing labour laws. The demonstration was organised under the direction of HMS vice-president Siddharth Gautam and led by the union’s central vice-president and regional secretary Arvind Kumar Singh. Area president Balwant Singh Vishwakarma, project president Sunil Kumar Shah, and several local leaders participated in the protest demanding withdrawal of the new labour codes.

Union Opposed Replacement of Old Labour Laws
Protesters raised slogans demanding that the Centre retain the old labour laws, claiming that the new framework dilutes workers’ rights and benefits. Representatives of various BCCL projects including Vishwakarma Project, Alkusha Project, and Kusunda Area joined the agitation. Leaders such as Gauri Shankar Chauhan, R.N. Singh, and Jayprakash Singh accused the Government of ignoring workers’ welfare in the name of simplification.

Central labour unions had earlier called for a nationwide strike on 20th May, which was postponed due to Operation Sindoor. Later, the strike has been rescheduled for 9th July. However, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has distanced itself from the movement, stating that the new codes could be implemented with minor amendments. Despite this divide, trade unions across the country continue to express discontent over the Government’s new labour policy, calling it anti-worker and pro-corporate in nature.
