The CSIR–National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) and Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for advance mineral research and technological innovation. The collaboration aims to accelerate India’s efforts in efficient utilisation of mineral resources and reinforce the Government’s vision of a self-reliant and sustainable mineral economy under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Partnership to Focus on Critical Mineral Exploration and Technology Development
The newly formed alliance will concentrate on research and development in critical minerals, metal extraction, and process innovation. Both institutions will jointly execute projects focusing on mineral beneficiation, metallurgical process design, analytical support, and technology gap analysis. The MoU also envisages technical cooperation by NML in MECL’s independent exploration projects. The partnership is expected to play a vital role in ensuring effective value addition of India’s mineral resources while developing domestic capability in advanced extraction technologies.

Strengthening Industry-Research Collaboration for Sustainable Growth
The agreement was signed by Karthik Ramachandran, Head (Business Development & Commerce) at MECL, and Dr. S.K. Pal, Chief Scientist and Head (Research Planning & Business Development) at CSIR-NML. The signing ceremony was attended by MECL CMD Indra Dev Narayan, Director (Technical) Pankaj Pandey, and NML Director Dr. Sandeep Ghosh Chaudhary, along with several senior scientists and engineers from both organisations. The partnership is expected to enhance knowledge exchange, skill development, and joint innovation between scientific institutions and the mining industry, marking a progressive step in India’s mineral research ecosystem.
