The Ministry of Coal is set to launch the 14th round of commercial coal mine auctions on 29th October in New Delhi, marking another milestone in India’s push for transparency, competition, and self-reliance in the coal sector. Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy will preside over the event as Chief Guest. The auction, part of the Government’s ongoing reforms since 2020, will offer a mix of fully and partially explored coal blocks under liberal terms aimed at attracting diverse investors and promoting ease of doing business.

New Reforms and Technology Driven Framework
In a major policy move, the Ministry will introduce provisions for Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) for the first time within the auction framework, enabling the utilization of deep seated coal reserves that cannot be mined conventionally. This initiative is expected to reduce dependence on imported natural gas and crude oil while creating new opportunities for investment, technology adoption, and job creation. The upcoming auction aligns with India’s commitment to expand domestic coal production and support the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by ensuring a stable, self-sufficient energy ecosystem.

Digital Push with CLAMP and Koyla Shakti Portals
Alongside the auction launch, the Ministry will unveil two digital platforms, CLAMP (Coal Land Acquisition, Management, and Payment) and Koyla Shakti. The CLAMP portal will digitize land acquisition and compensation processes, ensuring faster, transparent, and accountable transactions across coal PSUs. The Koyla Shakti dashboard will integrate the entire coal value chain, from mining to logistics into a single digital interface, enabling real-time coordination between companies, railways, ports, and consumers.
