The Ministry of Coal has appointed Saroj Kumar Jha, Additional Secretary in the ministry, as the interim Chairman of Coal India Limited (CIL). The appointment, which effective from 1st Novm November, was made following the retirement of the incumbent Chairman, P.M. Prasad, on 31st October. Jha will continue to hold the additional charge until further orders or the appointment of a regular chairman, as per the official communication issued under the direction of the Union Coal Minister.

Leadership Transition at Coal India and CMPDI
The leadership reshuffle at the top of India’s coal sector also includes the retirement of Manoj Kumar, Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI), a subsidiary of Coal India. Officials said Jha’s interim tenure is expected to ensure administrative continuity and smooth functioning at Coal India.
