Coal India Spends 30% More on CSR, Allocates Rs. 850 Crore in FY 2024-25
Coal India Limited spent Rs. 850 crore on CSR in FY 2024-25, a 30% rise from Rs. 654 crore last year. Over the past decade, the company has invested Rs. 6,149 crore—26% above mandatory requirements. Major initiatives include medical aid for 800 children with thalassemia and anemia, enhanced worker compensation to Rs. 25 lakh, and expanded insurance coverage for regular and contract miners.
Coal India Aims to Achieve 875 Million Tonne Production Target This Fiscal: CMD
Coal India CMD Sanoj Kumar Jha said the company is determined to achieve or come close to its 875 million tonne production target for FY 2025-26. Speaking at Hindustan Copper’s 59th Foundation Day in Kolkata, Jha acknowledged recent shortfalls but expressed confidence that production efforts will meet expectations by fiscal-end.
Production Resumed in All Three HEC Plants
Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) has revived production across all three plants, with steady dispatches and ongoing work worth Rs. 500 crore. Orders from BHEL Hyderabad and Haridwar have strengthened operations. Union leader Leeladhar Singh said sustained production could ensure regular employee salaries and urged speedy tendering for contract workers. Modernization efforts are also underway.
Jharkhand Receives Only 11.3% of Central Grants in Six Months, Development Schemes May Be Hit
Jharkhand received just 11.3% of its targeted central grants during the first half of FY 2025-26, far below last year’s 23.09%, according to the AG report. Of the Rs. 1.43 lakh crore revenue target, only Rs. 46,602 crore (32.48%) was achieved. Officials warned that if revenue inflow doesn’t improve, the state may need to cut spending, impacting welfare and development projects.
Process Begins for Appointment of New CEO for Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Plan
The Jharkhand Government has initiated the process to appoint a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Plan. The Department of Personnel has invited applications from serving or retired officers of Joint Secretary rank. The CEO will be based in Dhanbad; applications close on 28th November.
UPSC to Hold Meeting Today on Promotion of Jharkhand Police Officers to IPS
The UPSC will meet in Delhi today to finalise promotions of Jharkhand Police Service officers to the Indian Police Service (IPS). Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar and Home Department officials have reached Delhi with required documents. Promotions for selection years 2000, 2021, 2022, and 2023 will be discussed, covering nine vacancies and 17 shortlisted officers.
IIT (ISM) Study Finds Highest Fluoride Levels in Dhanbad and Jamtara Groundwater
An IIT (ISM) Dhanbad study revealed alarming fluoride contamination in Jharkhand’s groundwater, with Dhanbad’s Baliapur and Jamtara recording 3–18.5 mg/L — far above WHO’s 1.5 mg/L limit. Researchers tested 545 samples across districts, finding fluoride, nitrate, and sulfate as key pollutants. Around 3.6% of water sources were deemed unsafe, posing serious public health risks.
ED Awaits Prosecution Sanction Against Six Jharkhand Officers in Major Scam Cases
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sought prosecution sanction from the Jharkhand government against six officials, including ex-DC Puja Singhal and ex-Ranchi DC Chhavi Ranjan, in major money laundering and tender scam cases. Despite evidence, no approval has been granted and ED has filed a criminal petition in court, accusing the state of delaying action.

The Kolhan-Porahat Saranda Bachao Samiti announced a total economic blockade of rail and road routes in Saranda on 16th November, opposing its declaration as a wildlife sanctuary. Leaders alleged constitutional violations for lack of presidential and gubernatorial consent and demanded enforcement of Fifth Schedule provisions to protect tribal rights.
Villagers Oppose Acquisition of 1,500 Acres in Budhmu, Ramchi
Farmers from Sindraul, Bade, Chakme, Ara, and Matwe villages in Budhmu block have strongly opposed the proposed acquisition of 1,500 acres of fertile land. Led by Gram Sabha Jan Sangharsh Morcha, villagers submitted a memorandum to the CO, warning of agitation. They said the land is their livelihood and cultural heritage, protected under the Fifth Schedule and PESA Act.
