Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) has initiated the preparation of a revised project report (PR) for its Amalgamated Konar-Khasmahal (AKK) Project, counted among the country’s top 25 coal mines. The earlier PR, framed for 2019–2032, had estimated a total production of around 200 million tonnes. CCL now plans to increase the mine’s annual production capacity from 6–7 million tonnes to 10–12 million tonnes, aiming to meet the growing energy demand in the coming years.

Strong Growth and Ongoing Infrastructure Expansion
During the current fiscal, the AKK project has achieved a production of 2.16 million tonnes, registering about 18 to 19% growth over last year. Monthly output has surged by 188%, and the project currently ranks second across CCL in coal dispatch. Three railway rakes are being loaded daily, with plans to increase the figure to four or five. Construction work on a Coal Handling Plant (CHP) is progressing rapidly and is targeted for commissioning by 2026, expected to improve efficiency in coal loading and dispatch operations.

Village Relocation and Expansion Plans Ahead
The company is also pursuing the relocation of Barwabeda village, a crucial step before accessing an estimated 40 million tonnes of coal reserves beneath the site. CCL has already spent Rs. 14 crore to develop facilities at the proposed rehabilitation site in KSP Phase-II, located about three kilometres away. Also, the management is working to expand operations in the Kurpania section, having nearly 26 million tonnes of coal reserve. Around 150 houses in Kurpania and nearby areas will be relocated, with daily consultations underway under the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) framework. The expansion, once complete, will significantly enhance CCL’s production capacity and strengthen Jharkhand’s role in India’s coal supply chain.
