Production Plan and Timeline
This new phase marks a significant development for the Amrapali coal block, located in Tandwa, Chatra district of Jharkhand. As per the contract, the outsourcing company Caliber Joint Venture (JV) will handle both coal extraction and overburden removal for the next eight years. The company will also be responsible for dispatching coal up to Shivpur Railway Line, ensuring smooth transportation and logistics throughout the contract period. Nishant, a representative of Caliber JV, informed that within this period, the company aims to extract 139 million tonnes of coal, and approximately 4000 lakh cubic metres of overburden (waste material covering the coal seam).

Tender Details and Investment
This project is being undertaken at an estimated investment of around Rs. 8600 crore, making it one of the largest contracts in the history of the Amrapali Project. Interestingly, Caliber JV won the tender by quoting 18% below the base rate, giving CCL a cost advantage. After the puja ceremony, the company dispatched its first 100 Hyva trucks of coal, officially beginning the large-scale operation. The start of this massive 139 MT production phase is a big step forward for CCL and the entire coal mining ecosystem of the region. With a high investment, long-term contract, and a reliable private partner in place, the Amrapali Project is poised to play a crucial role in meeting India’s coal and energy needs over the next decade.

Background and Transition
Earlier, the mining activities at Amrapali were handled by Ambe Joint Venture, but with the commencement of this new contract, Caliber JV has taken over as the principal mining operator for this critical coal-producing site. This strategic shift is expected to significantly boost coal output from the region and support India’s growing energy demands.
