A major employment opportunity is on the horizon for the Patratu region as Twenty First Century Mines Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai, gears up to begin coal production from the Tokisud Block-II mine by December 2026. Spanning nearly 500 acres across Mahua Tola and Naktitola of Ramgarh district, the project is expected to transform the local economy and increase Jharkhand’s revenue through coal royalties and allied industries.

Project Overview and Timeline
The Tokisud Block-II coal block was allotted to the company by the Union Ministry of Coal through Commercial Coal Block Auction. With preliminary groundwork and land acquisition already underway, a public hearing (Gram Sabha) is scheduled for 8th October under the supervision of the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board. According to company CEO Revati Raman Srivastava, the mine aims to produce 1.5 million tonnes of coal annually over its 30-year operational period.

Employment and Rehabilitation Plans
The company has assured that nearly 4000 direct and indirect jobs will be created through mining, transportation, and support services. Around 100 families affected by land acquisition will be rehabilitated to alternative sites with proper facilities. District officials have already initiated valuation of affected land parcels, and discussions with landowners are ongoing to ensure fair compensation and smooth acquisition.

Local Aspirations and Environmental Considerations
Villagers have expressed optimism about the project, expecting better infrastructure, roads, and social amenities in Palu Panchayat and nearby areas. However, community leaders have also urged the company to ensure the welfare of displaced families and strict compliance with environmental norms. Former Panchayat head Gangadhar Mahato stated, “Industrial growth must go hand in hand with social responsibility. The company should prioritize the interests of the displaced and ensure sustainable development.”

The Tokisud coal mine will contribute to State’s economy through taxes, royalties, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. With increasing energy demands and ongoing infrastructure projects, the new mine is supposed to play a key role in strengthening India’s coal supply network while creating livelihood opportunities.
