The suspended officer, who has been in judicial custody since 30th May 2025, secured relief under Section 187(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The lease of Tata Steel’s Vijay-2 Iron Ore Mine, located in the Saranda forest, expired on 17th August 2025. The lapse has raised concerns not only within the company but also among thousands of workers, transporters, vendors and small businesses whose livelihood is based on the mine’s operations. Tata Steel has announced plans to expand its public facilities initiatives beyond its official leasehold area in Jamshedpur, covering nearly 125 settlements compared to the 86 listed earlier.
