The operation was initiated following a written complaint by a coal truck driver, who alleged that he was being forced to pay illegal charges in the name of Vishthapit Jan Samiti while lifting coal from the site. The Central Government has approved the revised Jharia Master Plan, allocated Rs. 5,940 crore to address the long-standing issues of underground fires and land subsidence in Jharia, Dhanbad. Coal India Limited (CIL) reported a nearly 9% drop in coking coal production for May 2025, producing 4.53 million tonnes compared to 4.96 million tonnes in the same month last year, according to provisional government data.
