Ranchi is all set to become the State’s hub of scientific learning and innovation, with Jharkhand preparing to establish its first-ever Science City. The project aims to promote scientific tourism and innovation, positioning Jharkhand as an emerging destination for science-based education and exploration.

Regional Centre in Ranchi to be Upgraded
According to Dr. Raj Shekhar Prasad, Executive Director of the Jharkhand Council on Science, Technology and Innovation (JCSTI), the existing Regional Science Centre in Ranchi will be upgraded into the Science City. Spread across 17 acres, the centre will now expand to cover a total of 43 acres, with an additional 26 acres recently allotted by the Ranchi district administration. The new complex will feature advanced exhibits, innovation labs, and public engagement zones designed to inspire curiosity and creativity among students and visitors.

Expansion Plans for Jamshedpur and Dhanbad
Alongside the Ranchi project, the State Government has also proposed new regional science centers in Jamshedpur and Dhanbad. These centers are envisioned to serve as regional nodes for learning and outreach, encouraging participation in scientific activities at the local level. Officials said the initiative would eventually extend to all districts, ensuring that scientific education and innovation are not limited to urban centers.

Driving Scientific Tourism and Learning Culture
Officials see the Science City as more than a museum, it will be a center for scientific dialogue, innovation, and public engagement. By integrating science with tourism, Jharkhand hopes to create an ecosystem that nurtures talent and sparks a culture of discovery. The Science City project underscores the State’s commitment to combining education, technology, and public participation in shaping a knowledge driven future for Jharkhand.
