The NML Chatti Bariatu Coal Mining Project in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district has achieved a major operational milestone by dispatching its 2,500th coal rake on 15th July 2026. The landmark rake was dispatched from Bachra Siding, marking another significant step in the project’s coal evacuation programme and its contribution to meeting the country’s energy requirements.

Project officials said that since the commencement of operations, the mine has dispatched 1,802 coal rakes through Katkamsandi Siding and 698 rakes through Bachra Siding, taking the cumulative total to 2,500 rakes. During this period, the project has supplied 151.2 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of coal to thermal power plants across India, ensuring a steady fuel supply for electricity generation.
500 Additional Rakes Dispatched in Four Months
The latest milestone assumes significance as the project had crossed the 2,000 rake dispatch mark in March 2026. Despite challenges posed by the monsoon season, adverse weather, logistical constraints and operational hurdles, the project added 500 more rake dispatches within just four months, reflecting sustained momentum in coal transportation and mine operations.

According to the project management, the milestone reflects efficient planning, a robust coal evacuation system, close coordination among different operational units and the commitment of the workforce. Officials said the project will continue to focus on improving production capacity and operational efficiency to support India’s growing energy demand and contribute to the country’s long-term development objectives.
