A high-level delegation from the Ministry of Coal and leading national media houses including PIB, PTI, Zee Business, Aaj Tak, Outlook Business, EnergyWorld, DD News, and All India Radio concluded a three-day visit to Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) operations across Jharkhand.
The visit, focused on CSR, Environmental Innovation, Women’s Empowerment, and Next-Gen Mining Technology with an aim to highlight CCL’s contribution to India’s energy security, while also showcasing its community welfare initiatives, sustainability programs, and technological advancements.

Empowering Through CSR: Education, Livelihood & Welfare
The delegation inspected flagship CSR initiatives such as ‘CCL Ke Laal’ and ‘CCL Ki Laadli’, which support underprivileged students from mining-affected areas. Delegates were pleased to learn that alumni from these programs have secured admissions in premier institutions like IITs, IIMs, NITs, IIITs, and BIT Mesra. Two alumni, Divyanshu Kumar Mishra from Ramgarh and Matlu Baghel from NK Area are now working as mining engineers at CCL. The group also visited fisheries and tailoring training projects supporting local livelihoods and women’s empowerment, including interactions with female beneficiaries.

Environment & Technology: Green Mining in Action
At Barka Sayal and North Urimari, the delegation observed CCL’s adoption of modern, eco-friendly technologies like Coal Handling Plants (CHP) and Fugitive Dust Management Projects. These innovations ensure faster, dust-free coal loading with minimal environmental impact. Area General Manager Ajay Singh led the site tour.
In NK Area, delegates ventured inside the Churi Underground Mine to witness advanced underground mining technologies firsthand. They held in-depth discussions with women miners and appreciated CCL’s commitment to gender inclusion in coal mining. The visit also featured a special interaction with Akanksha Kumari, Coal India’s first female mining engineer.

Tech Showcase at CMPDI
At CMPDI, delegates explored the 5G Testing Lab and Earth Sciences Museum under NACCER. They learned about the integration of technology and innovation in mining practices.
Strategic Dialogue at CCL Headquarters
During their visit to CCL headquarters in Ranchi, the journalists held a strategic dialogue with CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh, Director (Finance) Pawan Mishra, and Director (HR) Harsh Nath Mishra. The discussions covered future expansion plans, including the launch of two new coal mines in FY 2024–25, expected to boost coal production significantly. Topics like foreign investment, sustainable development, and inclusive growth were also addressed.

Engagement with Sportspersons & Animal Welfare Initiative
On the final day, the team visited the Khelgaon Sports Complex, interacting with young athletes under the Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society. They also reviewed women-centric initiatives such as sewing training centers and the “Rakshak” program, which treats and rehabilitates stray and sick dogs.
