The Centre reviewed Rs. 34,213 crore worth of infrastructure projects in Jharkhand, with a key focus on the Patratu Thermal Power Project. Officials stressed timely execution, inter-agency coordination, and boosting private investment across five northeastern states.

The Central Government has conducted a detailed review of 11 major infrastructure projects worth over Rs. 34,213 crore currently underway in Jharkhand. The high-level meeting, held on June 24, 2025, was chaired by Amoddeep Singh Bhathia, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The review was part of a broader evaluation of critical infrastructure developments in five northeastern and eastern states, including Sikkim, Nagaland, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. Among all, the Patratu Thermal Power Station Expansion Project in Jharkhand drew the most attention.
Focus on Patratu Thermal Power Station – Phase 1
The Patratu project, being developed jointly by NTPC and Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL) under the Ministry of Power, is set to add 2,400 MW in its first phase through three units of 800 MW each. This is part of a long-term plan to build 4,000 MW capacity using supercritical technology, which ensures higher efficiency and reduced emissions. The plant is being constructed on the existing Patratu site (brownfield project), using water sourced from Nalkari Dam and coal supplied from NTPC’s captive coal blocks.
Progress on Projects in Other States
The meeting also covered several high-investment projects across the region:
Arunachal Pradesh: The Dibang Hydropower Project, valued at Rs. 33,469 crore, will house India’s highest dam and generate over 11,000 million units of green energy annually, with 13% free power allocated to the state. It will also assist in flood control.
Nagaland: Two projects including the Kohima Bypass Road were discussed. This road is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity, benefiting both trade and tourism.
Sikkim: Two infrastructure projects worth Rs. 943 crore were reviewed.
Assam: A major infrastructure initiative worth Rs. 6,700 crore was assessed for its ongoing progress.
Boosting Private Investment & Ease of Doing Business
The review also included GeoEnpro Petroleum Limited’s Rs. 1,000 crore project in Arunachal Pradesh. The DPIIT Secretary urged the state to prioritize this private investment and ensure necessary support. He emphasized the importance of enhancing the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) and directed officials to utilize the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) portal for improved coordination between the Centre, states, and private stakeholders.
Official Directive: Timely Execution Must Be Top Priority
Mr. Bhathia highlighted the need for time-bound implementation of infrastructure projects to drive economic growth and expand the region’s core facilities. He encouraged stakeholders to remove project delays through inter-agency cooperation and fast-track resolution of pending issues.
