A high-level CERC delegation visited NTPC’s North Karanpura and Pakri Barwadih projects to review progress, discuss operations, and inspect facilities. They appreciated safety measures, sustainability efforts, and women’s empowerment initiatives, concluding with a tree plantation and review meeting.

A high-level delegation from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) undertook a two-day visit to NTPC Limited’s North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project (NKSTPP) in Tandwa and the Pakri Barwadih Coal Mining Project (PB-CMP) in Hazaribagh from 27th June to 28th June 2025. The purpose of the visit was to assess the ongoing progress of both projects and engage in key discussions related to power generation, coal supply, environmental practices, and operational excellence. The delegation included top CERC officials, including Ramesh Babu V (Member – Technical), Harish Dudani (Member – Law), Ravinder Singh Dhillon (Member – Finance), Rajeev Pushkarna (Chief – Finance), T.D. Pant (Joint Chief – Law), and Subhashis Das (Assistant Chief Engineer).

Warm Welcome and Review at North Karanpura
At NTPC’s North Karanpura site in Tandwa, the delegation was welcomed with traditional gestures. S.K. Suar, Executive Director and Project Head of NKSTPP, honoured the visiting dignitaries by presenting shawls and saplings. A high-level review meeting was conducted in the presence of senior NTPC officials, including Shivam Srivastava, Director (Fuel), NTPC Ltd., Ajay Dua, Executive Director (Commercial), and Naveen Jain, Regional Executive Director – Mining. Discussions focused on the project’s progress, fuel supply mechanisms, future plans, and regulatory updates. The officials appreciated the pace of development and NTPC’s efforts to maintain quality and compliance in every stage of the project.

Visit to Pakri Barwadih Coal Mine
In Hazaribagh, the delegation’s tour of Pakri Barwadih Coal Mining Project, operated by NTPC Mining Limited (NML), began with the inauguration of Bachelor Hostel-01, built for employees. A cultural evening titled Ghazal Sandhya was organized at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Recreational Centre, reflecting NTPC’s focus on employee welfare and workplace culture. On the second day, the delegation visited the Mine View Point where officials briefed them on mining operations, safety systems, and sustainability initiatives. A field inspection of Section 2, Phase 2 was conducted, followed by an inspiring interaction with women dumper operators who drive 100-ton dumpers. Their role was highly praised as a strong example of inclusion and empowerment in the mining sector.
The team also inspected the Banadag Railway Siding and reviewed the Rapid Loading System (RLS) to understand coal evacuation logistics. The visit concluded with a tree plantation drive, part of NTPC’s ongoing green initiatives, and a final review meeting at the Sikri Site Campus Conference Hall.
