Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren Passed Away in Delhi
Jharkhand Education Minister and senior JMM leader Ramdas Soren died on 15 August 2025 at Apollo Hospital, Delhi, aged 62, after battling brain hemorrhage since 2 August. He sustained a severe head injury in a fall at his Jamshedpur home. A veteran politician since 1980, his body will be brought to Jamshedpur for last rites on 16 August.
Assembly’s Monsoon Session Resumed with Supplementary Budget from 22nd Aug
The Jharkhand Legislative Assembly’s adjourned monsoon session will resume as a supplementary session from 22nd August to 28th August 2025. The session, earlier postponed due to Shibu Soren’s demise, will include the presentation of the first supplementary budget, legislative discussions, and pending financial business. Additional days may be added if required.
PVUNL’s First Unit Moved Closer to Commercial Power Generation
The 4,000 MW supercritical power plant at PVUNL, Patratu, successfully conducted daily trials from its first unit, producing 300–800 MW. Electricity is being dispatched from Katia Grid to Bedo Grid during testing. Officials confirmed preparations for full commercial load, with formal announcement expected soon, marking a milestone in Jharkhand’s path to energy self-reliance.
Protests at CB Mines Continued for 13 Days, Causing Heavy Losses to NTPC and State
Former MLA Yogendra Sao’s protest at CB Mines entered its 13th day, halting transport from CB and KD mines. The disruption caused NTPC a loss of Rs. 8.32 crore and the Jharkhand Government Rs. 2 crore in two days. Mining remains suspended, coal theft has surged, and the company plans legal action to recover losses of about Rs. 40 crore.
513 Acres of Forest Land Allocated, Many Power Projects Still Stalled
In Kolhan, 513 acres of forest land were transferred for various power projects, yet several remain incomplete. A 600 MW plant and solar power expansion are stuck, despite land allotments in Chaibasa, Seraikela, and Jamshedpur. Transmission line projects too face delays, with work yet to begin in multiple areas.
ESL Steel Opened Learning Resource Centres to Boost Rural Education in Jharkhand
ESL Steel Ltd., in partnership with the American India Foundation, inaugurated Learning Resource Centres in Dhandabar and Siyaljori under its CSR rebranded Project Shiksha. These hubs will offer early education, STEM learning, computer skills, spoken English, and exam preparation, aiming to empower rural children with holistic and inclusive learning opportunities.
