Political tensions in Jharkhand have flared over a contentious mining project, with Congress leader and Ex-MLA of Barkagaon, Amba Prasad publicly appealing to Chief Minister Hemant Soren for urgent intervention. In a series of social media posts, Amba Prasad alleged that villagers in her constituency are being harassed under pressure from Ritwik Mining, a private mining company engaged in the NTPC Chatti Bariatu project as Contractor (MDO).
Ms. Prasad accused Ritwik Mining Company, owned by businessman CM Rajesh and his brother CM Ramesh, a BJP MP from South India forcibly acquiring land from raiyats (landholders) and initiating mining without consent. “Local families who resisted have been subjected to police action instead of being heard,” she wrote a post on her Facebook Page.

Families Assaulted, Houses Demolished Without Consent
She claimed that her repeated attempts to secure fair compensation, employment and rehabilitation for affected families were ignored. Instead, she alleged, company owners issued “serious threats” to her and her family. In a particularly sharp charge, she said the company threatened to ensure her father, former minister Yogendra Sao, is sent to jail and her political career destroyed. In her post, she also alleged that on 17th August 2025 (Sunday) nearly 400 police personnel entered the village, assaulted her personal security guard, driver, and several raiyats, and later detained them at the police station where they were allegedly beaten further. She questioned whether Jharkhand’s Government of “Jal, Jungle, Jameen” (water, forest, land), a phrase often used in political discourse had been reduced to “mere slogans.”
Appealing directly to the Chief Minister, Ms. Prasad wrote that houses are being demolished without due process, proper compensation, or consent, while those raising objections face criminal cases. She urged the Government to take “immediate cognizance” before the situation escalates further.
