Armed criminals opened fire late on 18th August 2025 night at the base camp of PSME Company engaged in the Sayal-D coal project of Ramgarh district. According to police, the attack was aimed at creating fear and forcing the company to pay extortion money. A scooter-borne duo arrived at the site, and one of them fired a round at the main gate before fleeing towards Sayal.
Rahul Dubey Gang Claimed Responsibility
The police confirmed that notorious criminal Rahul Dubey claimed responsibility for the attack through a social media post. In the letter circulated online, Dubey warned the company’s management to “settle matters” by paying extortion money and described the firing as a final warning. He also threatened contractors associated with the General Manager’s office, asking them to treat the notice as applicable to them as well.

PSME officials and security staff reported that the gunfire left a bullet hole in the company’s gate. The Pataratu SDPO, Gaurav Goswami, who inspected the site, said CCTV footage was being examined to identify the assailants and assured that arrests would be made soon. Police have promised to strengthen security arrangements for contractors and company representatives working under CCL projects in the area, given the extortion threat.
