Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) carried out an extensive two-day anti-theft operation on 19th and 20th August, targeted electricity theft across the state. The drive, approved by Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Avinash Kumar (IAS).
7600 Premises Checked, 1188 Cases Found

A total of 119 teams, comprising officials from headquarters and regional levels, inspected 7600 premises during the campaign. Theft of electricity was confirmed at 1188 sites. FIR filled against them under the relevant provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003. The total assessed liability from these cases calculated to Rs. 196.44 lakh. Police authorities extended full cooperation in the enforcement exercise, ensuring security and compliance during inspections.

The JBVNL urged citizens to support the campaign against electricity theft, described it as a critical step in reducing distribution losses and improving supply reliability. Consumers have been asked to confidentially share information about theft via WhatsApp or SMS to the General Manger on +91.94311.35515. The JBVNL management emphasized that the identity of informants will remain strictly confidential. Officials noted that sustained public participation is essential for building a culture of accountability and strengthening the state’s power sector.
