The Jharkhand Government has taken a decisive step to modernize Ranchi on the lines of Bengaluru, with the presentation of a concept plan for the state’s largest shopping mall and inter-state bus terminal (ISBT). Karnataka’s state consultancy agency IDEC placed the proposal before Urban Development Principal Secretary Sunil Kumar, who directed that the final design be submitted within a week. The project is positioned as a key component of Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s vision for balanced and inclusive urban development.
The Modern Mall to Cover 7.36 lakh Sq. Ft. Area
Planned over 5.59 lakh Sq. Ft. of land and 7.36 lakh Sq. Ft. of built-up area, the mall will integrate modern retail with Ranchi’s cultural identity. Its design includes open-air shops, multi-level retail outlets, restaurants, multiplexes, event and exhibition zones, alongside features emphasising greenery, safety, and cleanliness. Officials expect the development to catalyse commercial and tourism growth across neighbouring districts such as Patratu, Ramgarh, Kudu and Lohardaga, while offering residents access to branded goods and organised retail.

ISBT to Enhance Connectivity and Modernity
The ISBT at Dubalia will be designed to showcase Jharkhand’s culture while providing 211 bus bays with separate arrangements for intra-city, inter-city and inter-state routes. Passenger amenities will include air-conditioned waiting areas, dormitories, food courts, ATMs, parking facilities, and even healthcare support. Incorporating bamboo artwork, LED screens, and green landscaping, the terminal is expected to provide a comfortable travel experience while easing congestion. Authorities believe the twin projects will not only enhance urban infrastructure but also position Ranchi as a hub of modernity and tradition.
