Three Jharkhand Coal Blocks Included in 13th Round of Commercial Mining Auction
The Union Coal Ministry has issued tenders for the 13th round of commercial coal block auctions, covering 14 blocks across Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Jharkhand. Three coal blocks from Jharkhand Dhulia North, Pirpainti Varahat, and Rajdhar have been included in the process. The move aims to boost private participation and expand coal production in the country.
Copper Deposits Found in Hazaribagh, Auctions Likely Soon
Hazaribagh, long known for coal and mica, may soon emerge as a copper mining hub. Geological surveys have confirmed copper reserves in Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, and Koderma, with auctions expected shortly. Officials said copper’s classification as a “critical mineral” underscores its importance for economic growth and national security. The discovery promises revenue gains and new employment opportunities for Jharkhand.
Centre Cancels Auction of Five Key Mineral Blocks Due to Poor Response
The Central Government has scrapped the auction of five critical mineral blocks, including rare earth, nickel-PGE, tungsten, and glauconite deposits, citing lack of bidders and inadequate technical participation. Part of the fifth auction phase launched in January 2025, the cancellations affect blocks in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh. So far, 10 out of 15 blocks have been successfully auctioned.
Sand Mining Policy Boosts Jharkhand’s Revenue
Jharkhand’s revised sand mining policy has turned around state revenue collection. Last year, sand mining yielded less than Rs. 10 crore, but in 2025-26 it is projected to cross Rs. 2,800 crore. Officials said the earlier subsidised rates only benefited middlemen, while the new market-based system ensures fair pricing. Overall state tax revenue has also grown over 30% in four months.

Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, reviewed the revised Jharia Master Plan in Dhanbad, stressing rehabilitation, social development, and healthcare in mining regions. Tata Steel has invested Rs. 3,104 crore ($355 million) in its Singapore-based arm T Steel Holdings, acquiring 353.23 crore additional shares. The move aligns with its dual strategy of boosting domestic capacity while restructuring European operations. Singapore’s global business hub status makes it strategic for international asset management. Despite multiple past infusions, Tata Steel retains 100% ownership of the subsidiary.
Tata Steel Bonus Talks Today, Lower Profits May Cut Payouts
Tata Steel’s bonus agreement with employees will be finalized today amid signs of a reduced payout due to lower profits. Last year, workers received Rs. 303 crore under the 2014 bonus formula, but this year’s pool may fall to Rs. 272 crore as profits dropped to Rs. 9,255 crore. Land Losers Warned of Protests Against Chandragupt Coal Project Over Compensation
At a meeting in Pachra Panchayat, landowners affected by CCL’s Chandragupt coal project in Hazaribagh and Chatra demanded compensation as per the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, at current rates.
