The Confederation of Indian Industry’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) formally inaugurated its 32nd chapter in Ranchi, making it the first of its kind in Jharkhand. The launch event, organised at Radisson Blu Hotel, highlighted the state’s growing focus on sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure. Architect Rajiv Chaddha, named as Chairman of the Ranchi chapter, with Panchratna Group Director Piyush More as Co-Chairman.

Government Pledged Support for Green Policies
Urban Development Principal Secretary Sunil Kumar, who attended the event as chief guest, said the chapter marked an important step for Jharkhand’s urban development. He added that the Government would work towards creating a policy and regulatory environment to encourage green building construction, adopt innovative materials and technologies, and prioritise citizen well-being. He also confirmed that certain Government buildings and affordable housing projects would be brought under green certification.

Industry Leaders Saw Opportunity in Jharkhand
IGBC Vice-President C. Shekar Reddy described the Ranchi chapter as a milestone in the council’s national net-zero building campaign. “Jharkhand’s real estate and infrastructure sector holds immense potential. Sustainable construction is not only an environmental need but also a strategic opportunity,” he said. Chairman Rajiv Chaddha called it the beginning of a transformative journey for the state, aiming to make green buildings a mainstream practice. Co-Chairman Piyush More added that green construction meant creating more value with fewer resources, and the chapter would serve as a support system and innovation hub for stakeholders.
Experts Shared Solutions for Green Construction
The event brought together industry representatives, developers and institutions. CREDAI Jharkhand President Kumud Jha, CII members and academics from BIT Mesra participated in a panel discussion on “Local Aspirations and Jharkhand’s Green Future.” Technical sessions featured experts from Saint-Gobain, Tata Steel, Ultratech Cement and ACS Green Consulting, who presented solutions on energy-efficient glazing, green steel, low-carbon cement and IGBC certification frameworks.
