A Gram Sabha (villager’s meeting) organised near Hempur Akhara in Balumath block turned into a strong show of resistance against NLC India Limited’s proposed North Dhadu coal project. Villagers, gathering in large numbers under the leadership of Karam Ganjhu and Jairam Ganjhu, declared that no land will be given for the company. Gram pradhan Dileshwar Ganjhu was among those present.
The villagers resolved that neither Parliament nor the State Assembly can override the authority of the Gram Sabha in matters concerning land, particularly as the region falls under the Fifth Schedule. They declared that company representatives would not be allowed entry into the village under any circumstances.

Warning Issued to Middlemen and Land Brokers
The gathering issued a strong warning to middlemen and brokers allegedly working for the company, asking them to stop such activities immediately or face social boycott. “The Gram Sabha alone has the right to decide on land. We will not tolerate outsiders striking deals on our behalf,” villagers said collectively.

Protest Set to Intensify in Coming Days
Amid chants of “Zameen Nahi Denge” and “Gaon Bachao, Company Bhagao”, residents pledged to intensify their agitation in the coming days. With tempers rising and a clear stand taken, the standoff between villagers and the company is likely to sharpen, bringing land rights under the Fifth Schedule once again to the centre of Jharkhand’s industrial debates.
