Acting on the orders of the Jharkhand High Court, Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi inspected a mining lease site at Chhota Hadiyan in Tangrain panchayat under Potka block of East Singhbhum. The visit was conducted after complaints that raiyati land was being used for mining and blasting activities were damaging nearby houses.

The disputed lease, granted in the name of Shahzad Beg, covers around nine acres of Government land. Villager Amar Bilas Puran had moved the High Court alleged encroachment on raiyati land and damage to property from mining-related blasting. Acting on the petition, the Chief Justice directed the Deputy Commissioner and Circle Officer, Potka, to place their response before the court by 11th September.

DC Instructed CO to Submit a Report
Following the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the Circle Officer to carry out precise measurements of the leased land and submit a report. Officials present included District Legal Services Authority Secretary Dharmendra Kumar, BDO Arun Kumar Munda, CO Nikita Bala, local mukhiya Asit Sardar, and Potka police station in-charge Dhananjay Kumar Paswan. The petitioner Amar Bilas Puran, leaseholder’s representative Viswajit Das, and several villagers also attended.
The High Court directly monitoring the matter, district authorities are expected to clarify whether the leaseholder has adhered to legal boundaries and environmental safeguards. The outcome may have wider implications for similar disputes in the state.
