The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Sunday approved the appointment of retired IAS officer Amit Khare as Secretary to Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan. Khare, a 1985-batch officer of the Jharkhand cadre and currently advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will hold the position on a contractual basis for three years.

Distinguished Career in Administration
Khare, a former Union Information and Broadcasting Secretary and Higher Education Secretary, has served in key roles across the Centre and State Governments. Known for his integrity, he gained national attention for his pivotal role in exposing the fodder scam during his tenure as Deputy Commissioner of West Singhbhum in the mid-1990s. He was part of the core team that framed the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, shaping India’s education reforms.

Since October 2021, Khare has been serving as Advisor to the Prime Minister, focusing on social sector policies and Governance. His term in the PMO was set to continue until June 2026, but the new appointment to the Vice-President’s Secretariat marks a shift to a constitutional role of national significance.
Leadership Team in Place
Alongside Khare’s appointment, the ACC also approved the appointment of Kerala cadre IAS officer Chandrasekar S (2014 batch) as Private Secretary to the Vice-President. The appointments come just days after CP Radhakrishnan was sworn in as Vice-President on 12th September 2025, following his victory over Justice B. Sudershan Reddy.
