The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court of Asha Devi Bhatt on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of senior IAS officer Vinay Kumar Choubey in the 3.75-acre Khasmahal land scam case. Choubey, a former deputy commissioner of Hazaribag, is accused of irregularities in converting land belonging to the Hirabag Trust Board into government land and later diverting it for private sale.
Special Public Prosecutor Abhishek Krishna Gupta represented the ACB, while advocate Shankar Banerjee appeared for the defense. The ACB case was initiated after an FIR was lodged against Choubey in August this year, lead to his arrest and subsequent judicial custody.

Choubey is currently in Birsa Munda Central Jail, Ranchi. With the bail plea now rejected, he is likely to remain in custody until further legal recourse is sought. The case has drawn attention in administrative and political circles as it involves a serving senior IAS officer facing allegations of misuse of official position in land transactions.
