The Election Commission of India (ECI) has removed seven political parties from Jharkhand from its list of registered political parties, citing non-participation in any elections for six consecutive years. The action is part of the Commission’s drive to clean up the electoral process and weed out inactive entities.
Parties Removed in Second Phase
Among the parties deregistered are Aapka Hamara Party (Hazaribagh), Bahujan Samaj Morcha (Giridih), Jharkhand Janadhikar Party, Jharkhand Vikas Dal, Jan Sadharan Party, Hum Kisan Party (Ranchi) and Jharkhand Dishom Party (Jamshedpur). The EC clarified that under its guidelines, any party that does not contest elections for six years is liable to be removed from the list of registered political parties. This action marks the second phase of the EC’s nationwide exercise. In the first phase, held on 9th August, as many as 334 parties across the country, including five from Jharkhand were removed. With the latest move, a total of 12 parties from Jharkhand have been deregistered.

Financial Compliance Under Scrutiny
Alongside the deregistration, the EC has identified 359 political parties across India, including seven from Jharkhand, for failing to submit audited annual accounts and election expenditure reports for three financial years, FY2021–22, FY2022–23, and FY2023–24. Notices have been sent to these parties through the Chief Electoral Officer of Jharkhand, who will conduct hearings before a final decision is taken.
Removal of inactive parties is expected to curb misuse of registration benefits, while scrutiny of financial records is seen as a step towards ensuring transparency in political funding ahead of future elections.
